"It is pre-prepared for the teacher and the aims and the outcomes are very specific. So less written more achieved, I'm all for that!"
"The programme lends itself to integration with the other subject areas. In Maths we made a graph of people's favourite instruments; in Arts and Craft we created percussion instruments; in Social Studies we were listening to the birds outside the window here - it was beautiful; and during PE we were able to increase or decrease our pulse count etc. So, very, very well worthwhile."
Fun with the Melody
Encourage exploration through pair, peer, and team games.
Finding one's voice can take time and a relaxed approach that offers opportunities for feedback through self-observation can take the 'judgment' out of learning.
Feeling a Steady Pulse
Nothing like a bit of practice to master essential skills!
The musical pulse is one of the fundamentals of good musicianship and this activity offers an opportunity to connect movement with unfamiliar music.
Find the Musical Pulse
Once again, ignite curiosity about the music to be heard by prompting learners to think about what the title and cover image might suggest about the composition.
Learners may instinctively 'find the musical pulse' in this music, however, there are 'helping sounds' embedded in the audio track as pointers. Enjoy expressing the pulse creatively!
Emsona offers video, audio, and printable resources to support teachers in the delivery of a comprehensive and progressive music learning curriculum. With resources to learn new songs, explain musical concepts, practice and master essential skills, learners will enjoy putting newly learned skills into action.
"The lessons held their interest very well and we achieved lots while having fun. The children absolutely loved it and I loved it myself, it is very visual."
"Lends itself to pair, peer, and group work so we had a great time with that."
"It appeals to the senses, big time; visual, aural, oral, tactile, and movement. And the aims are reinforced to by the exercises."
Building a repertoire of songs to enjoy is at the heart of the Emsona approach to music learning. The Emsona song repertoire contains colourful lyrics set to simple melodic and rhythmic patterns that progress in complexity as learners gain skill. Orchestrated in a variety of styles, songs can be used for pure musical enjoyment, for learning specific musical elements, and for sharing or public performance.
Explainer videos present music concepts in bite-size pieces. This example is the first in a series of videos that presents the unique features of the musical alphabet. In this video learners are simply introduced to the seven letter musical alphabet and it includes a simple games called 'What's Missing'.
Subsequent videos in the series demonstrate how to navigate the musical alphabet in both directions, ascending and descending; the cyclical nature of the musical alphabet; the concept of pitch classes, octaves, and other essential concepts.
Practicing skills in an expressive musical environment dissolves the tedium sometime associated with the repetition required for mastery.
Apply newly acquired musical understanding gained from explainer videos and mastery practice to new, unfamiliar music.
